How to Find Symptoms of Insomnia or Sleeping Disorder?
Sleep is essential for rejuvenation of the body. A person needs about 8 to 9hours of sleep during which he passes into stages of deep sleep and REM sleep. However, not everyone is blessed with the ability to fall asleep and stay asleep. Sleep disorder or sleep apnea may affect you and you may not even be aware that you have this disorder. You have to look at the symptoms.
Types of sleep apnea
Sleep apnea may be the obstructive type. Air passageways become blocked and that makes breathing difficult. A person may stop breathing and then wake up with a jerk. Sometimes, air passageways may be blocked only partially and this results in snoring. Central sleep apnea is another variation in which the brain does not send signals to the lungs to breathe and a person stops breathing for several minutes. This can have grave consequences such as cardiac arrest. There is still another type of sleeping order known as narcolepsy in which a person may not get adequate sleep and is likely to fall asleep during the day time even when he is in the middle of some activity or the other.
Causes of sleep apnea
- Obesity is one reason.
- Endocrine malfunction is another reason for sleep apnea.
- Watching TV or laptop screen or smartphone screen could cause insomnia since blue light interferes with melatonin production and ability of the brain to generate alpha waves.
- Heart and kidney disorders may cause insomnia.
